James L. (Jim) Provost was born April 14, 1928 in Malinta, Ohio the son of Dallas and Josephine (Dietrich) Provost. Jim passed away peacefully to be with his Lord on June 26, 2012 surrounded by his loving family after a short and courageous battle with cancer.

Jim was a co-owner of Dyer & McDermott, Inc., a wholesale electrical business for over 43 years prior to selling the business in 1992. Jim grew up in Napoleon, OH and attended school there. He was confirmed at the age of 12 in the Emanuel Lutheran Church, Napoleon. After his marriage to Doris Keefer in September of 1947 they moved to Wauseon, Ohio where they lived throughout their married life. He transferred his Lutheran church membership to Christ United Methodist Church, Wauseon over 60 years ago where he had been a faithful member serving on the Administrative board, the pastor-parish relations committee, and board of trustees.

Jim loved to camp and fish, spending many years fishing with his friends in northern Michigan both in the spring and the fall. After his retirement he and his wife spent the winters in Florida where they attended the United Methodist Church of Haines City. Jim was very active in the “Son Seekers” Sunday School Class. Summers were spent at their cottage on Devils Lake, MI and the weekly highlight was attending church services each Sunday morning on the lawn or in the boat house at the Devils Lake Yacht Club.

He served on The Farmers & Merchants State Bank Board of Directors for many years. He was a member and Past Master of Wauseon Masonic Lodge #349F&AM and a 32nd degree Mason. He served as a volunteer for the “Retired Senior Volunteer Program”, was a member of the Wauseon Elks Lodge #1734, a member of the Devils Lake Yacht Club and served on their board of governors. He was very involved with the Boy Scouts of America and served as a scout master of Troop 8 Wauseon. He also attended Real Estate School and received his Ohio Real Estate License. He was a member of the “Fulton County Senior Center Advisory Board”.

Jim and his wife and five other couples met monthly for more than 50 years as the “Pepper Club” to play bid euchre. He was always proud of the fact that nobody smoked or drank at Pepper Club.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Donald Provost and a grandson Jonathan Provost.

Surviving are his wife Doris of 64 years, a daughter Linda (Larry) Earman, Hilliard, OH; two sons, Robert (Kaye) Provost, Burton, OH; Charles (Debra) Provost, Indianapolis, IN; Eight grandchildren: Lisa (Tim) Wood, Hilliard, OH; Laura (Steve) Galbreath.
