As a classmate of Bernard I could truly call Bernard a friend, however I don't know if he would think the same of me - I would hope so. I remember making a special effort and attempt to make sure and certain to talk to him at the 50th class reunion, because I thought he was a person of merit, and had heard he had been seriously ill shortly before that time. I told him I had heard that, and was glad to see him there at the reunion and that I was glad to see he had recovered enough to attend. I didn't want to miss saying "Hello" to a noble and long time friend. He was a good man, deserving of respect. I'll miss him, but sad I didn't tell him more of what I thought of and about him while he was alive. However, hopefully I'll catch up with with him in heaven, for surely if ever a man will be there, it will be Bernard J. Layman.

I was coming to visit at St Pete's, but my husband is ill and we have a doctor's appt. Just want to share all the happy memories I have of your Dad and you girls. Many hours of laughter and games being played at CYO parties and our house. It doesn't seem like that many years ago. Miss seeing you. Hugs to all of you and know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Lois,

My deepest condolences to you and your family. Bernard was a good friend and classmate. I remember long talks with him when he came come on leave during his Air Force service. We just sat in my folk's back yard, ate Mom's chocolate chip cookies and talked.

I know that we have lost contact over the years, and have been out of touch. I have thought of you and your family much though and wished that things could have been different as we grew up. I am truly sorry for your loss and wish the best for all the family at this trying time.
