I worked for Richard starting at age 16 at Forecraft (1968) in the old building. He was a great leader, a Christian who lived his faith daily, and a generous man who extended an employment opportunity to a youngster like me to earn money for Hesston College for two summers. I also worked for Jake at HerMars at age 15 and that was a great experience too. I will never forget his quiet demeanor and sense of humor while being an example for me of a business man with high integrity and intelligence. He will be missed by all but not forgotten by anyone who knew him. I am proud to call him a first cousin

Betty and family,
Please accept my sincere condolences at the loss of Richard. What a great man he was indeed! I always admired him. He was a man of deep and sincere faith, he knew and lived the Word of God, and he wore his relationship with Jesus on his sleeve so that everyone could notice. I loved his sense of humor and he always made me feel significant when we connected. Truly he was a man to be admired and emulated. He has now finished the race with dignity and has heard the Lord say - "Well done my good and faithful servant." May God give you strength and much grace at Richard's passing.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. Through the numerous stories that we have heard from our two sons-in-law, Justin Lugbill and Dustin King, we have seen the legacy of humility, love and generosity that Richard and Betty passed on to their children and grandchildren. May God wrap His arms around you all as you remember and celebrate Richard's life in these next days and months and years. In loving memory, Randy & Shiela Meert

To Betty and Family,
As I set here with tears running down my face, they are happy tears, because I know Richard is with Jesus. You all have been such mentors of mine over the years. It is hard being so far away at times like this. God hold you in his arms and comfort you. I will pray for you more than ever in the next while.

My heart hurts. Richard was such a sweetie. Betty and him always had an open heart. I know he is fixing up his wood workshop to do some projects with Jesus and i look forward to joining them some day. Best lesson Richard ever taught me was the lesson of the porkchop. There is always enough for one more, a lesson I try to apply today. Luv u Richard!
