Stanley Robert Buehrer, 86, of Adrian, MI and former resident of Archbold OH, passed away Monday, September 25, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones and in the care of Hospice of Lenawee in Adrian, MI. Stan is remembered best as a loving husband, father and friend. Stan and his late twin brother, Philip Buehrer, were born in Wauseon, OH on Sept. 16, 1937, to Herbert and Lucille (Planson) Buehrer. On Sept. 20, 1958, he married Gaye Anne Sweet. Gaye passed away in 1996 and in 2009 he married Nancy Lein of Adrian MI, and she survives.
Both Stan and Phil enjoyed playing high school football, basketball and baseball. They graduated from Archbold High School in 1955. Both continued their love for sports in college and went on to graduate from Ohio Northern University each with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1959, and they later earned their masters degrees from the University of Illinois in 1961. Stan began his teaching career in the Rockford School District. He spent several years in Neillsville, WI where he helped run a children’s home for orphans. He returned to Ohio in 1967 to accept a teaching position in Archbold, OH where he and Gaye raised their two sons and three daughters. Throughout his career as an educator, Stan enjoyed coaching basketball, baseball, and football. Among Stan’s most enjoyable hobbies were golfing, woodworking, hunting and taking numerous fishing trips to Canada and Michigan with his dad, brothers, and other family and friends over the years. He loved to stay active and spent many hours volunteering his time to his church and to groups like Habitat for Humanity and Hospice of Lenawee County.
Left to cherish his memories are his five children, Mark (Jessie) Buehrer of Bellingham, WA; Jenny (Duane) King of Pettisville, OH; Matthew (Karmyn) Buehrer of Tipp City, OH; Beth Marie Buehrer Sweet of Portland, OR; and Katie (Daniel) Jimenez, of Tipp City, OH; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother Phil, and younger brother Dr. Paul (Sharon) Buehrer. Also surviving are his sisters Jane (Ross) Keller of Holland, OH and Lynne (Erich) Christman of Archbold, OH and Nancy’s children: Geoffrey (Laura) Miller of Avilla, IN; Dave (Wilmarie) Miller of Swanton, OH; Jamie (Laurie) Miller of Holland, OH; Jeremy Miller of Holland, OH; Jeffery Lein of Toledo, OH; Bryan (Karen) Lein of Toledo, OH; Dennis (Robin) Lein of Richfield, OH; Lori Martinez of Grass Valley, CA; Patti (Bob) Haas of Holland, OH; Heath (Gina) Lein of Toledo, OH and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
On Saturday, September 30, friends and family are welcome to join Stan's celebration of life at St. John's Christian Church (700 S. Defiance St, Archbold, OH). Visitation will start at 11am, with a funeral service to follow at 1 pm to honor Stan’s life, officiated by Pastor Erich Christman.
All guests are invited to stay for a reception after the funeral. The family will join after a private interment ceremony at Zion Cemetery. Grisier Funeral Home in Archbold has been entrusted with arrangements.
The family extends gratitude to Ohioans Home Healthcare’s nurse Sarah, and the nurses of the Hospice of Lenawee County for the attentive and loving care he received. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to Hospice of Lenawee, 1903 Wolf Creek Hwy., Adrian, MI 49221.
