Virginia Mae (Booth) Scherer

Virginia Mae Scherer, age 93, of Manistique, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026, at Woodland Assisted Living, surrounded by the love of her family.

Virginia was born on May 1, 1932, in West Hope, Ohio and spent the greater part of her life in Delta and Wauseon Ohio, before moving to the Manistique area in 2006. She was the daughter of Wilbur Booth and Mary (Beavers) Booth. She attended school in Deshler, Ohio, completing the 12th grade.

On February 28, 1953, Virginia was united in marriage to Wayne Scherer in Napoleon, Ohio. Their marriage was one of deep devotion and love until Wayne’s passing on August 5, 2016.

Virginia dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker, finding great joy in caring for her home and loved ones. She was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church of Manistique and remained active in church life for many years.

Virginia had many interests and hobbies that reflected her warm and creative spirit. She was an avid quilter, an excellent baker, and was known as a great pie baker. She was a member of the Quilters Club at Zion Lutheran Church, enjoyed polka dancing in her younger years, and loved camping and wildlife. She was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Delta during her earlier years.

She is survived by her two sons, Joseph (Jackie) Scherer of Shingleton, Michigan, and Gary (Michelle) Scherer of Bacliff, Texas; seven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne Scherer; and her sister, Jane Pasztor.

Virginia will be laid to rest at Winameg (Aetna) Cemetery, of Delta, Ohio next to her husband, Wayne at 11am, March 28th, 2026.
