My sincere condolences. Gene was a deputy sheriff when I was about 9 or 10. He stopped in his cruiser and picked me at about 10pm as I was walking along the side of the road trying to get home after supposing to spend the night with a not-so-nice friend and I decided to leave her house without telling anyone. A few years later he became a neighbor and stopped by the house to pay his respects when my father passed a way. I'll always remember him.

I'm so sorry to hear of Gene's passing. While working in Fulton County, Gene was my support guy. He was always there for me and helped me through some tough times with a story or a laugh. I will always remember our first meeting and our years of friendship. He was a prince among men!

MY BIG BROTHER! WOW! What a special person. Memories flow of our sister and me on the front porch of our home racing angleworms (making ours go faster with toothpicks), playing with our dolls under their blankets while the thunder and rain came and Gene would be in the kitchen and bring us out homeade treats made from puffed rice and puffed wheat - now rice krispie treats. Memories of his big bull who soon lost his happy home and Ginger the goat whom he trained to play hide and seek with us (we did not understand that one summersalt and she had won), and Tag.... oh the memories. I am especially grateful for an incident when I was about 7 yrs old. He and Ev showed up with a beautiful red box with blu letteers - happy birthday Nancy!. Inside was an Andy Panda bear. There was a BIG fight (due to religious problems) but Gene prevailed and I got to keep my bear. Years later when HE was ill I sent HIM a bear. Reminded him of the situation. We talked so many times about "our bears". That bear of his sat on his bed until Wes rescue it upon closing his home. I am so glad. He is old and worn but has been so loved - just as my brother. Another time he drove to Fla. when I was having major problems with a teenager. A heart to heart ended up with my having the most perfect son in the world to this very day (and he is now 55 years old on Dec. 11). It is so hard to let him go but I must and will. But he will never be forgotton. He now joins his family members and one day we will reunite with him. Until then may you - Wes and Bruce - and family members have peace. May you know youare very loved. May we press on as a family now united as things have changed so very very much. I love you all. Aunt Nancy

I have known Gene for over 50 year going back to my high school days. He was always a great guy to spend time with and I never knew him to be anything but always a very positive person. I loved his restaurant, his wives, his hobbies and his many friends. He was a champion for Wauseon and always reminded me of where I came from. He will be missed. My prayers are with his family. Sending our deepest sympathy to your family. So sorry we cannot be to your father's memorial service since we are in Florida. Gene was a great funny loving guy. Our parents shared a lot of great times together. I'll miss his hugs at church on Sunday mornings. Dwell on the loving memories of your dad.
